More complex than you think...
The respiratory system its principal function is the exchange (mechanical and molecular) of oxygen and carbon dioxide throw all the body. It is divided in several parts:
- Nose.- It wet and warms the air that enters into the body.
- Nasal sinuses.- Give the pitch to our voice.
- Pharynx.- It lets the food and air to pass, with this part of the body is where we cough.
- Larynx.- It prevents (epiglottis) the pass of food to the respiratory organs and it also includes our vocal cords.
- Trachea.- Conducts air to the bronchia ans lungs
- Bronchia.- They are conducts that distribute the air into the lungs in a proper way.
- Lungs.- Organs in charge of the of the exchange of gases, although this exchange really happens in a small part of the lung called alveoli.
- Diaphragm.- Is the most important muscle involved in charge of the enter and exit of the air. When the diaphragm contracts we inhale and when it relaxes we exhale.
Just for being curious
- Our two lungs are different, the right lung is divided in 3 lobes and our left lung only has 2. This is because in the left side is also the heart so the lung has to be smaller for having enough space for both organs.
- Our voice is produce by the pitch and the vocal (generated by several organs) when we exhale air.
- When we hear a recording of our voice sound different of how we use to hear it, this happens due to that our voice makes resonance in all the cavities that we have (mainly in our head) and the distance between our mouth and ears generates an alteration of our voice. So the voice that you think you have may not be the same that the other people hears.
